What does ‘grading’ actually mean?

Logo Hain

In nature, no one tree is like another, and even within one tree, the wood can look very different. Exactly the same applies to parquet and Lindura wood flooring. As a living piece of nature, no plank is the same as any other; every single one is characterised by its structure, its variety of hues, and its surface treatment and finish, resulting in different styles of floors that significantly shape the overall impression of a room.

Our Longlife parquet is available in three different gradings and opens up a whole variety of options for you to find the most beautiful foundation for your home. Each grading has its own unique characteristics. The ‘harmonious’ grading, for example, is defined by its calm, balanced look, whilst the ‘authentic’ grading has knots and cracks that have been partially filled.

An overview of our three parquet gradings:

harmonious grading parquet

Harmonious

It's all about the natural mix. For the harmonious grading we choose woods with a calm look as well as a balanced and natural play on colours. They feature a few small tightly intergrown knots and no sapwood or cracks. Occasional cracked knots may appear and are professionally filled.

Lively grading

Lively

In this grading, we deliberately offer surfaces with strong colours and structures which emphasise the wood's natural character. Healthy, tightly intergrown knots, sapwood and brownwood are part of the overall lively image. Our oak planks do not have any sapwood in this grading, and knots are filled. Small knots and cracks that cannot be filled may occur occasionally.

Authentic grading parquet

Authentic

Parquet flooring with authentic grading features strong colour and structural interaction. Heartwood, cracks and healthy knots also appear and emphasise the wood’s natural character. In the authentic grading, the knots are not limited in size or quantity. The planks also have isolated sapwood parts, while the PS 500 and PS 300 collections are sapwood-free. Knots and cracks are professionally filled, though small knots and cracks that cannot be filled may occur occasionally.

Lindura wood flooring is available in four different gradings:

Authentic grading Lindura

Authentic

This grade offers an authentic look with a somewhat rustic appearance. There are differences in hues and structures between the planks, isolated sapwood elements and healthy knots are not limited in their diameter or frequency and create an authentic and natural look. Cracked knots and cracks are filled in using wood powder technology on Lindura wood flooring. The deep brushing creates a whole new surface feel and rounds off the natural, authentic overall look.

Lively grading Lindura

Lively

In this grading, we deliberately offer surfaces with strong colours and structures which emphasise the wood's natural character. Healthy distinctive knots and heartwood sections are part of the overall lively image. Cracked knots and cracks are filled perfectly using wood powder technology.

Natural grading Lindura

Natural

For the natural grading, we choose surfaces with a balanced variety of hues. Healthy tightly intergrown knots and occasional cracks are part of the wood floor’s overall natural look. The Lindura wood powder technology ensures perfectly filled cracked knots and cracks.

Classic

The classic grading is only available in herringbone format in the Lindura collection HS 500. The shorter planks feature a balanced interplay of colours and structures with few tightly intergrown knots and hardly any cracks. This calmer appearance of the individual planks allows the special herringbone laying pattern to work for itself. The very small cracks and individual knots are filled with wood powder.
